To get the “retirement house” we were looking for, we were going to have to build.  A friend had recommended John and Josh King years ago and when our realtor recommended them also, we knew they were the builder for us. After showing them some house plans we liked, they were able to combine everything on our wish list into one floor plan and build us our dream home!  It was so much fun watching the stages of our house as it became real and the contractors all agreed that we had chosen the best builders in Loudoun County! John and Josh were always there to answer our questions and to lead us in the best direction to build a top quality home that we will enjoy for many years! Now that we have been in our new home for six months, we can truly say this house was built by the best.  We are very impressed by the excellent workmanship and high quality of construction and would highly recommend John and Josh to our friends!

Country Living Associates were true partners during the entire process: from finding the perfect lot to designing our home. During the construction process the Kings and all of their subcontractors were a pleasure to work with. Everyone took great pride in their work and their end goal was to ensure that we were pleased with the work they had done–and we are! We are now settled into our new home and are happier than we ever could have imagined with the decision we made to custom build our home with John and Josh. When we decided to purchase land and build a custom home, it was easier to pick our builders than to find our plot of land and house plan.  In fact, we had Country Living Associates lined up to build our house weeks before any other parts of the puzzle came together! 

They were instrumental in helping us determine if the land we wanted would suit our needs and if the house layout was workable on that land. Then they were able to tweak the floor plan to include changes more suited to our family’s specific desires and tastes. 

The subcontractors used by CLA were very professional and did a wonderful job creating a home that we will enjoy for many decades to come.  John and Josh kept in contact with us each step of the way and were always quickly responsive to our questions and concerns, and they often offered suggestions that made our decisions much easier to make.

Working with Country Living Associates was like working with family. John and Josh King are approachable and good listeners. They were able to work with our ideas to create the outcome we wanted. We were able to open up our home and feel they were treating it as if it were their own.

We have loved both projects they have done for us. Living in Loudoun County all of our lives, it’s important that we have reliable workers that we can refer to others. We have that with Country Living Associates. We talk about our experience
with them on a daily basis and look forward to more projects to come. It’s a wonderful feeling having such a big job feel so simple but that’s how we feel when Country Living Associates is working for us.

We started out with a 2-bedroom, 1-bath cinder block ranch home (900sf) that was originally built in the late 1950s.

Though the kitchen was large, it had problems. The washer and dryer were located across the room from the sink. There were a lot of steps from the refrigerator to the stove, and very little storage space. Throughout the house, plumbing fixtures were mismatched and storage was very tight. The original roof was in desperate need of replacement.

Working with our tight budget, John & Josh came up with a two-level addition.  It gave us a master bedroom and full bath. The bathroom is comfortable with really cool plumbing fixtures and a pedestal sink, as well as a slate floor and shower. The 1st floor of the addition provided even more space so we could relocate the washer and dryer. We used the remaining space as a utility room.

Two years later, we asked Country Living Associates to install upgraded windows and doors throughout the original structure. This project lasted only a few days, but immediately we saw a significant savings on our energy bills.

On our third project, we remodeled the entire kitchen and opened up the wall between the kitchen and living room. The kitchen got new cabinets, granite countertops, new appliances, an additional prep sink and — my favorite— a new center island with storage.    I am amazed at how great the kitchen design is. Whether we are cooking or cleaning up, everything flows; everything is in just the right place.

As part of the third project, Country Living Associates replaced our roof and added a great-screened porch. The new roofline completely changed the appearance on the home. Now the house is true Craftsman style and with the screened porch we are able to truly enjoy the view and the surrounding beauty of the land.

Often times when building a house, the toughest and probably most important decision to make is which builder to use. When we recently decided to put a large addition onto our house, that was one of the easiest decisions for us. Country Living Associates had built our original house ten years earlier and we wouldn’t consider anyone else for the addition. Once again, they made the building process enjoyable. From the design to the finishing touches, their expertise and craftsmanship prevailed. They keep good communication and are very reliable. Our project was completed ahead of schedule and surpassed our expectations.
